Current Trends - Bride & Grooms Indian Wedding Reception Attire

The bride and groom wear attires with strong influences of a rich Indian heritage that adopts the concept of fusion by merging culture with a modern cosmopolitan flavor.

The occasion of a wedding reception which comes as the grand finale of the repertoire of the Indian wedding customs, makes a befitting occasion for elaborate costumes in traditional colors of maroon, burgundy, pink, red and wine shades are generally a popular choice.

Malaysian Indian Bride’s Wedding Reception Attire

1. Option A - Saree – drape in contemporary and fashionable styling.
2. Option B - English Evening Gown
3. Henna/Mehendi - ethnic or contemporary design with exotic patterns.
4. Bags – long strapped, short strapped or small sleek and stylish depending on taste.
5. Jewelry – necklace, bangles, anklets, finger rings, earrings, pendant complementing the outfit. Nowadays, brides opt for sleek design avoiding traditional heavy designs.

7. Shoe – designer shoes with small heel, decorated beads, stones or colorful straps.

Malaysian Indian grooms would commonly prefer formal attires such as Indian wedding suits. Indian suits are a fusion of rare fabrics and western style with an Indian touch. Wedding suits depends on the budget, personal style and liking.

Malaysian Indian Groom’s Wedding Reception Attire

1. Self colored or plain shirt (white, grey, cream).
2. Overcoat. Straight jacket – 2 or 3 or 4 buttons or a double-breasted jacket in six or eight button combinations. Grooms may button the overcoats or leave them open according to their taste. A proper selection of suit gives a suave look.
3. Trousers that match the shirt and the coat. The current fashion – parallels in straight cuts, two deep pleats and high waist.
4. Waist belts – black or brown.
5. A matching double knotted tie is important to give the complete look.
6. Shoes – comfortable formal leather shoes and matching socks. Shoes can be of colors, usually brown, grey, black even cherry colors.
7. Accessories – cuff links, bracelets, chains or rings complete the outfit.
8. Stylish party hair styling.

For some grooms, they may prefer Sherwanis – a traditional Indian wear for men. It is a close fitting jacket like garment, of knee length or longer, and has an opening in front with button fastenings, a Nehru collar. They are usually teamed with tight fitting churidar and Jodhpurs – which are a combination of churridars and trousers in contrasting colors. With a long scarf draped over one or both of the trousers. Sherwanis look really regal and elegant because they fuse the best of eastern and western styling.
