MYFOTO STUDIO - HOW IT ALL BEGIN

Deepak K. Menon has diversified knowledge, experience along with professional skills and are commonly associated in the fields of academics, professional photography and filmmaking.

Indeed, for some it may seem a handful. For us, we love every aspect of what we do and do not look at it as work at all! We have keen interest in the visual arts and love meeting people, sharing and expanding ideas. Through the years we have valued the practice of discipline, lots of time management and professionalism to ensure our growth is well balanced.

Walking down memory lane, our humble effort to create the first Malaysian made Indian community film CHEMMAN CHAALAI (The Gravel Road) created a stepping stone for our future collaborations to further venture on many more visions. CHEMMAN CHAALAI was a period piece set in the late 60’s that portrayed some of the social cultural conditions of Malaysian Indians in the rubber estate, was released in Malaysian silver screens and pay TV in January 2005. Deepak wrote the screenplay and directed the film.

Our second community film effort was CHALANGGAI (Dancing Bells) a community film set in Brickfields depicting some of the current day struggles of the Indian community in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, which was also released in the Malaysian silver screens and pay TV in July 2007. Deepak was the director-editor for CHALANGGAI.

We were grateful and delighted that to date; both films have screened and received numerous awards from many local and international film festivals for realistic and artistic depiction of Indian community life in Malaysia. However, what really mattered to us that we hoped that Malaysian’s would watch our film and appreciate our sincere effort in sharing the plight of the Malaysian Indian community.

Coming from moderate family backgrounds, we had little opportunities to travel and see the world outside ours, as travel would require much expense. The films gave us the opportunity to travel as well as proudly represent our country in many international circuits. Our personal travel log includes Singapore, Bangkok (Thailand), Manchester (United Kingdom), San Francisco (USA), Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Hong Kong and Fukuoka (Japan). To date, both the films have been screened in more than a dozen countries.

The filmmaking process and travels was a self-discovering journey and paved many great opportunities abroad and at home.

One fine day at a social gathering, we were approached by a family friend who valued our effort and sensitivity in our works and they persuaded us to utilize our talents and skills to photograph the most important day of their life, - their perfect wedding day. It was an honor to be part of such an important event and we did not hesitate to volunteer our commitment.

Ever since, we were approached by more and more well-wishes, friends and family that valued our professionalism, effort and creativity to photograph their weddings. Wedding photography is indeed very addictive. We became drawn into it day by day. Our wedding photography works were well appreciated and we were enthusiastic to the need to capture the candid, emotions and happiness of couples at their wedding day.

Since the first official assignment, many successful photography assignments have past and we have gradually gathered a humble reputation as an Indian wedding photography specialist. We constantly made effort to keeping up with the current trends and needs in wedding photojournalism.

In 2007, MyFoto Studio was officially initiated. A move that brought us from freelance photographers to becoming a professional photography company. Clients were increasing in number and we needed to upgrade our services. The studio was a place to display some of our works and a dedicated space to offer our commitment and personalized consultation for our growing demands from clients.

The studio also serves as a ground for renewed and progressive development in achieving excellence in the field of Indian wedding photojournalism. From a team of two, we have now grown to a team of eight consisting of senior and junior photographers.

Why MyFoto? It took us months deciding a name for something so close to our heart. What we were servicing was photography for the most important day for couples. We captured the moments to be shared and to be cherished again and again for a lifetime. It wouldn’t do justice to name the company after a name that was only significant to us. We wanted everyone to be part of the studio. Hence, MyFoto!

We believe that every wedding is unique and we put much effort understanding client’s needs by practicing consultations, discussions and pre wedding follow-ups with our valued clients. In fact, we even provide customized packages, albums and services to meet everyone’s need and budget.

The photographic works by MyFoto Studio was the result of several years understanding the creative industry and business environment as well as on going research of professional photography with potential of creating a market within and outside of Malaysia.

Over the next couple of years we hope to develop our ideas and break even more barriers as well as establish ourselves as a key player in the wedding professional photography industry in Malaysia.

MyFoto Studio – from love to a lifetime…
